GOVERNOR MUTFWANG TASKS BUILDERS ON PROFESSIONALISM IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

 


Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang , has emphasized the pivotal role of professionalism in the construction industry. 

The Governor stated this on Tuesday while declaring open,  the 53rd Builders' Annual Conference/AGM at the Crespan Suites and Event Centre in Jos, Plateau State, with the theme "Cement and Concrete: Advances in Research and Applications."

Governor Mutfwang, who was bestowed with an Honorary Fellowship by the Nigerian Institute of Builders, underscored the importance of the building profession in establishing a resilient infrastructure within the nation. 

He urged the Institute to assert its influence and take proactive measures to ensure that all construction projects adhere to high professional standards, thereby reshaping the current state of affairs.

"With a determined resolve guided by divine grace, we aim to transform the narrative on the Plateau. The Institute's significance cannot be overstated, and the moment is ripe for it to assume a dominant role in the industry. It is imperative that you step into a leadership position".

He encouraged the Institute to formulate strategic approaches that will ensure every construction endeavor in the foreseeable future incorporates the essential contributions of skilled professionals.

Governor Mutfwang praised the conference's focus on cement and concrete, expressing confidence in the keynote speaker's ability to address the designated theme comprehensively.

 He addressed the urgent need for research aimed at reducing construction costs in Nigeria and tackling the widespread housing deficit.



"The housing shortfall in Nigeria is a well-known concern. To bridge this gap, we must engage in purposeful research to make construction more affordable. Accessible and dependable building materials are crucial for enabling citizens to achieve homeownership. 

Our era demands an end to government-provided worker housing, and instead, we must empower employees to own homes even before retiring," he emphasized.

Governor Mutfwang said his heightened call for professionalism in the construction sector and research-driven solutions, reflects his commitment to fostering a robust and sustainable building industry in Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.



President of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Prof. Yohana Daniel Izam, highlighted the alignment between the conference's theme and the Institute's broader vision of "providing professional excellence and leadership for sustainable shelter." 

He underscored the indispensability of cement and concrete in the construction process, asserting that these components are fundamental in the creation of durable, sustainable housing solutions that address the nation's housing requirements.
