POLITICAL OFFICES MUST BE MADE UNATTRACTIVE

Elmangs Amos Writes

The most popular black nation, Nigeria is known for its cultural vibrancy and diversity located in Western Africa. It has a population of over 200 million people and over 500 different Languages. Nigeria is rich in Crude Oil, Tin, Iron, Ore, Coal, Limestone, Niobium, Lead, Zinc, and arable land. Without mincing words, I can boldly say that the country has an agricultural prowess of feeding itself and other nations. Nigeria is also a country with diversity of gifts and talents, its numerical strengths of professionals in the field of science and technology and other fields of human endeavour is second to none. In view of the above, one should be proud of himself to be call a Nigerian.

Nonetheless, the reality of the country is totally off what the country is known for as government sectors and parastatals looks unworkable. The educational sector in the country, the health, the security, economy, production, agricultural, transport, the judiciary sectors among others ramshackle. With the above reality, how in God’s name can the country work?

The political sector seems to be thriving despite all the above problems militating against the growth of the country, this is because thousands of Nigerians are running into it due to its lucrativeness. This sector is in charge and determine the fate of other sectors; thus, it colonises all funds that would have been properly be put to use in other sector towards the growth of the nation and the wellbeing of all Nigerians.

Therefore, political offices though as important as they stand due to functions of administration towards the growth and development of Nigeria must be made unattractive, the benefits of the offices should be reviewed. How do you explain equity in the 12 months wages of a political office holder to that of an ordinary civil servant that voted him into office? And how do we justify the benefits of the a civil servant who toils every day for 30 days in 35 years to that of a political office holder in four years? The reality is sad, and that makes the basis of the problem of our country Nigeria

Diplomacy, quality, sanity, equity and morality should be introduced into the Nigerian Governance system if the country must work. Politics and political interest must understand the place of humanity. Political office holders should be lovers of people and not money.
